History of 日本語（にほんご）
There was an ancient Japanese named 大和言葉（やまとことば）.
We adopted 大和言葉 to imported Chinese character 漢字（かんじ） and it was called万葉仮名（まんようがな）.
Famous poetry collection 万葉集（万葉集） was written by 万葉仮名.
In 7 century, Hiragana was born by cursive writing of 万葉仮名.
Katakana also was born by sign of pronunciation etc. of 万葉仮名.
万葉集 was edited in 8 century and contains more than 4,500 和歌（わか Japanese poetry consists of 5/7/5/7/7 word）
